My Take On Tonight’s GOP Debate

My two picks for tonight’s debate gems was Ron Paul’s answer to whether or not he was Republican enough to win the nomination:

and Mike Huckabee’s exegesis of Ephesians 5:22:

I don’t know how you can be all over Ron Paul and Huckabee. It boggles my mind.

  • It’s called “principle”….

    ;)

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the debate. What did you think about Mr. Giuliuani’s support of Israel?

    haha, fair enough.

    Seriously though,

I understand and I do appreciate the fact that Huckabee is unashamed of the Gospel, but I have some issues with his running history. For instance, the fact that he pardoned so many criminals on death row, when even he as a Christian should understand that God appointed him to the position of holding a “sword”. In the horizontal earthly kingdom, justice must be served. I also have some concerns about his lack of knowledge on international affairs, and the fact that he might be weak on terrorism. Personally, when all of this adds up, I’m only thinking of one person when I look at Mike Huckabee…..Jimmy Carter, and that scares me.

As to Ron Paul, I don’t know if it is factually confirmed, but Matt Drudge had some links to some very strange comments he made.

The only real and lasting power a President has is who he appoints to the Supreme Court. Giuliani has already said that he has every intention of appointing judges like Scalia, etc. Therefore, I’m teetoring between Mccain or Giuliani. In the end though, I’m a single to two dimensional voter….if you’re pro-life and pro-biblical marriage you already have me hooked. That’s the best part about primaries, we can more or less, “pick” the best person for the job to run for the office of president. If Huckabee wins the Republican ticket then I’m going to vote for him against any democrat.

By the way BH, I put an intersting link on your wall. According to this pastor, Huckabee didn’t get Eph 5:22-23 all correct, more or less, he missed the point.

  • Rudy’s support, like most of the other Republican candidates seemed overwhelming political. Ron Paul was the only one who seemed to have a principled defense of Israel. Paul’s answer was right on! I’m posting his response right now!!!

i think the only similarities btwn Jimmy Carter and Mike Huckabee is that they were both governors and Christians. But beyond that…

i’m telling you dude, you need to read Francis Schaeffer’s “A Christian Manifesto”, and then you can join of us on the Ron Paul bandwagon and quit searing your conscience… :)

No thank you, I’m good. :) Wouldn’t want to throw my vote away. Well, I tell you what, Paul wins the primaries I’ll vote for him, but until then I’ll let my conscience rest secure in the active obedience of Christ, and I’ll just stay a casual observer.

BTW, do you think Paul will be giving refunds to his Constituency when he leaves the primary? :) Burn! haha

Sorry Hank that was a very scathing response. I hope you know I’m just joking.

  • Not as much “scathing” as it was “wrong”…lol

  • haha….zing!

Seriously though, lets say Ron Paul and Gov. Huckabee both lose the primaries, and it goes to someone like Thompson or McCain, what are you going to do? Will you abstain from voting, do a write-in, or the “pick your poison” approach?

Honestly, if you really want to paint me into a corner, I’d really like Thompson to win, but I think it would be unrealistic.

  • And another thing! How about calling me back when I call you a weekend ago twice, and I left a message, or how I called you 3 hours earlier and left a message! You’re making me feel desperately pathetic. :(

  • A few simple choices for you would be:

    1) Don’t vote, or vote only in races in which a Christian is represented. The Presidential race is not the only voting happening in November.
2)Vote for a third party candidate who does subscribe to your political/theological philosophy.
3)Write in a believing Christian that you know.

P.S. - sorry about the lack of communication. remember, i was the one who majored in Ag…unlike someone else i know…

Hank, I’m sorry for being such a hot head, and I mean “hot” not “pot”.

  • I liked Huckabee’s marriage talk but thought it had absolutely nothing to do with the ability of Huckabee or any other candidate on that stage to be President, even though I’m sure it won him many more evangelical votes, and I doubt he didn’t realize it.

I always think about Ron Paul’s Israel policies (or should i say lack of policy) when I see news like our U.S. government giving millions of advanced smart bomb technology to Saudi Arabia… because, you know, those cronies will *always* be our friends…
