The Secret To Blog Traffic? Ron Paul…Evidently.

Who would have thought that a rambling post about how Ron Paul’s political stances are interestingly similar to Francis Schaeffer’s theology would have brought me in 1,500 visitors in less than 24 hours!? (That’s like 1.04 visitors a minute! For 24 hours!) On Christmas day of all days!

I had heard all the buzz about Dr. Paul’s internet following, but boy, I had no idea what I got myself into when I came out in support of the good Doctor from Texas. There were more comments in a few hours on that one post than I even have time to respond to. And more points of view than John Kerry at a swiftboat rally.

Evidently, my endorsement got linked to on a Ron Paul forum as “Evangelical Christian Blogger Switches from Huckabee to Ron Paul!“, and in came the flood of traffic. And after digging through most of the comments, both here, and on the other forums, I noticed a handful of things:

1) Paul’s people are definitely excited. I will vouch for that. Hopefully that will mean something for him in the coming days.

2) There a few, but very few, of Ron Paul supporters who support his candidacy based upon the belief that it takes a Christian worldview to be able to adequately defend a document (the Constitution) which was written in Reformed theological context. I’m one of the few.

3) As mentioned in the intro, Paul has a diverse group behind him. Atheists, Baptists, and everyone in between – and for almost the same reasons…they believe he is the candidate who will most ardently defend liberty.

4) Few of Paul’s supporters believe that his faith is a driving factor in their support of his candidacy. It seems that many thinks it helps, but I get the feeling that few would pull their support if he was not an evangelical.

5) I also get the feeling that many of his supporters think he is anti-war…which he admittedly is not. He may be anti-Iraq war, but he himself explained that he held to Augustine’s “just war” theory.

With Iowa right around the corner, I’m thinking about sitting down in the next day or two, and trying to hammer out – one more time – why I believe that a candidates faith is of utmost importance, for the very reason that it is their faith by which we can measure their vision and their promises.

More to come…hopefully.

  • So, are they looking at your other posts, too? Will the traffic continue? Hey! If Ron Paul gets nominated, or ranks high in the primaries, then he’ll still be popular enough to send people searching his name and reading the forums about him to come here. What a great idea for increasing traffic! 1500! That’s more than I have since mid-October when I joined WordPress. I’m jealous!

Looking forward to more posts, on politics or theology or the connected-ness of everything under a Christian worldview!
    To God be all glory,

  • Lisa,

As one who experienced first-hand the influx of visitors to the site, I’m sure you were as surprised as me! Thanks for fielding some of the questions and comments. I didn’t have the ability to respond while everything was brewing, and to be truthful, I didn’t even know where to begin…! They primarily went straight to the Ron Paul post, and didn’t tarry too long anywhere else on the blog – although a number of them did browse around some other posts. Thanks for the plug on “the Dust”. God really moved my heart with that poem.

    Thanks for the support!

  • Hi, my name is Hank I brag about how man people visit my blog. 1, 500?! Come on, why don’t you share some of those visitors with me?! I thought we were doing good getting in 20 to 30 viewers a day. :(

  • You are doing good….for a “Lutheran” blog….hehe

  • haha, *sigh* it only makes sense. small congregations = small blogs

  • Hey there… I’m a Paul-supporting commenter who came back and may stick around for a bit… as a Christian I like reading intelligent thoughts about current events or theology or both. Way to accidentally capitalize on the passion of Paul supporters!

  • The influx of visitors, I think it’s safe to say, won’t be a permanent 1,500, but certainly out of that 1,500, some will be bound to return, and I’m sure some will be bound to stay. After all, I returned, didn’t I? ;)

    Nice site, in any event.

  • Thank guys. Hopefully we’ll have much to talk about in the coming days!

  • I did not even know Ron Paul existed as a candidate until I took the GlassBooth online quiz.

  • Good post!- I was a classic conservative for so many years.. until I realized that the world doesnt run the way we are being told (as on FOX news or CNN)- I spend alot of times in Africa, in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Congo and others.

Like most of us, I hate being ‘lied to’- and you dont have to be a prophet or a Christian to realize that we are being lied to from our politicians, to our media

I endorse Ron Paul (after being a classic GOP, Bush lover) after doing alot of investigation- I loved your post, and encourage people not to trust the spinmasters (the nightly news)- they probably really are bought off…

What you dont think that it is a coincidence/accident that Rupert Murdoch (the CEO of Fox news) is the biggest donor towards Hillary Clinton–

Waking up and realizing that the world isnt compartmentalized or doesnt fit in the neat tidy way I thought… was tough- but its worth it.

They (FOX)dont know the meaning of ‘fair and balanced’ hence, the reason why Ron Paul doesnt appear in most of the polls. He is a threat, and has done well to not be corrupted by the corporations and money interests in Washington (Enron, WorldCom for example)

    Loved you blog- good job

  • For some reason I was signed in from my old blog (sorry):
    my new one is heaven4earth.wordpress.com

The old one doesnt go anywhere, sorry!

  • Hey brother. Though I’ve been mulling over the presidential election for quite a while, I’m just now getting into actually taking a serious look at the candidates.

That being said, Michael Medved has said and continues to say that Ron Paul has ties to white supremists and other facist groups. I’ve tried looking to see if this is substantiated, but cannot find anything. Have you read anything where Paul answers these charges? It does seem that Medved is the only one bringing these charges. Thanks!

  • As for traffic I know what you mean as it happened to us when our Boston Tea Party Blog,
    The Point of No Return
came out the same time when Ron Paul did his 2nd internet fund raiser.

  • Greetings brothers and sisters. This is my first time on this site. I found you by scanning the Ron Paul related blogosphere. This message is in response to Danny’s comments on 27 Dec regarding Dr. Paul and his alleged ties to white supremacists. The link is to the Daily Paul website and to a story about the New York Times retracting a recent article that linked Dr. Paul to said supremacists. This link may not answer your specific question about Mr. Medved; however, it should address the general question as to whether Dr. Paul has ongoing associations with such groups. He does not. http://www.dailypaul.com/node/17439

    Be blessed.
