I finally tracked down the local Planned Parenthood here in Louisville.
I’d been trying to get over there for most of this week, but today I actually made it happen. I was kinda bummed to discover that there are actually three PP clinics within a 30 minute drive of me. The closest is near downtown – about a 12 minute drive from the seminary. It looked quite a bit drearier today than it looks in this promo-pic from their website, but you get the idea. I didn’t realize they are only open from M-F, but you’ll get no objections from me! One less day to do their dirty deeds is fine with me.
This specific clinic seems more like the “run-of-the-mill” clinics that PP runs, unlike the clinic that was in Bryan, Texas. This PP of Louisville is centered right in the middle of a predominantly low-income minority neighborhood, which is where most of their abortions come from. They prey on the poor, the uneducated, and the unmarried – and cater their abortion services directly to their needs. They keep the clinics close, so that transportation is less of an issue. They keep the cost of their abortions low enough to enable their target clients to pay for them. And they peddle their “birth control” wares, and medical options throughout the neighborhood to establish their clientèle. Its a sickening circle of deception, where lies beget lies, which eventually begets death – all in the name of privacy and health care.
The saddest thing of all, is the clinic is directly behind an elementary school (Englehard Elementary to be exact)! Folks, I really didn’t know how to process this. It seemed so surreal as I pictured the stark contrasts that occur every day on the opposite sides of the same block. One place is celebrating life, and being trusted to instruct a parent’s child in public education; and only a hundred feet away, another parent is deceived into trusting a “doctor” to dispose of the life inside of her. One place celebrates the life of children, the other does not even value their death. To help me process some of this, I wrote the following few lines:
The Irony of September
“The elementary school is right behind it,
Bustling with the sound of laughing children,
Scolding teachers,
And the ringing of a bell.
Games of tag and hide and go seek dot the playground,
While intense discussions of the strength of “my daddy”,
And plans of next year’s birthday party abound.
The smell of chicken nuggets and fish sticks waft in the morning air,
As “the fat” kid tries his hand on the monkey bars,
Amidst the laughter and anticipation of his classmates.
With a smile on her face, Mrs. Jones surveys the action
From her post inside the 1st grade classroom a few feet away.
“September is such a happy time of year,” she thinks to herself,
As a little freckled-face boy named Elijah tugs at her denim skirt.
“Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones! Why is that lady crying?” he asks,
With a look of childlike innocence that required a similar reply.
“Which lady?” Mrs. Jones gently asked the little boy,
As she tried to follow the line of Elijah’s little finger pointing towards the street corner.
“That one,” he said,
Directing Mrs. Jones’ attention to a young black women approaching from behind the school.
Within a few seconds, most of the children in the yard had turned to wonder at this weeping stranger.
Mrs. Jones however, had no question as to the cause of the lamenting soul.
She turned to answer the freckled-face little boy, and with as much grace as she could muster replied,
“Elijah, that lady is crying because she is not a mommy anymore.”
Pray for this city folks. Pray that God would stir its heart to respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and in response to that, come to value the very life that was created in His image. Pray for discernment for those of us on the front lines – for a God-entranced vision of the Pro-Life cause. Pray that we would be faithful.
With a broken heart, and burdened soul,
‘BH

Just wanted to thank you for pouring your heart into this, brother. Keep up the poetry writing, too. I’m a big fan!

You have got to be kidding me. Of course you are a man.
Religion doesn’t pray on the weak and poor? Who are you kidding. You really need a history lesson.

Are you trying to say that only men are comics? How unhistorical of you… What about women like Minnie Pearl?…lol
As for your second comment, Ms. Serious, I think you got it backwards. Its actually the “weak and poor” that pray in my religion. And in fact, they are called ‘blessed’ by Christ himself:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” – Matthew 5:3-6
And about that lesson, history is “His-story,” and He does anything but pray on the weak and poor….
P.S. – Did you even read the post? Or did you just see the word “God”, and pull out a canned comment from your file?

Planned Parenthood of Louisville does not perform abortions. This business offers invaluable services such as annual exams, pap smears, menopause services, and cancer screenings that would otherwise be unavailable to the poor, the uneducated, and the umarried of which you speak.
No one is “preying” on anyone. A user of this clinic seeks the help provided. No one from Planned Parenthood of Louisville leaves fliers on doorsteps to advertise its business or drags people off the steet for education. Their services are sought by this community.

Unfortunately Whitney, even if you are correct, that would be like saying all the nazis didn’t gas jews, just the ones that worked in the concentration camps… Their funds still go to support the murder of innocent children and the deception of their mothers.

Wow. Nurses that provide health exams to women are compared to Nazis. Insightful.

It wasn’t meant to be insightful, it was meant to be repugnant. Physicians who take an oath to “Do No Harm” and then execute children in the womb shouldn’t be surprised at the historical company that they keep.

Are you to stupid to get that Planned Parenthood in Louisville does not do abortions!?!?!? Maybe your lawn chemicals have gotten to your brain.
The doctors and nurses there provide HEALTHCARE. No planned parenthood in Kentucky provides abortions.
Oh, and about DO NO HARM. What about all the “christian” preachers and priests who embezzle funds, abuse children and commit adultry? Isn’t there something in the bible about he who is without sin should cast the first stone? What humility you must have, casting your stones on the web.
Everyone in Louisville would really appreciate you moving BACK TO TEXAS.

Tired:
What a testimony! I have to say that this is probably one of the most encouraging comments that I have gotten as a pro-life blogger. Oh, and that quip about the lawn chemicals was priceless! I appreciate your comments, and your visit, but I’ll have to disagree with your conclusions.
I understand, if it is indeed true, that the PP clinic in Louisville does not perform abortions itself. However, by no means does that fact wash their hands of the blood that their sister clinics spill every day. You can be certain that abortion-related funds from other PP clinics go to support the clinic in Louisville and its workers, as well as the rest of the PP clinics around the nation. And I have no doubt that the folks at the Louisville PP would be glad to refer women to a facility to take “care” of the “health” of their unborn child if need be…
The question that your comment raises is: How much good does one have to do to excuse a continued evil? PP as an organization murders millions of unborn children every single year, and millions upon millions since the 1970’s. Whatever “healthcare” they may claim to do at any particular clinic does not scratch the surface of the depths of their murder as a whole.
As for those preachers and priests that you mentioned, I think that proves that, as George Jones said, the only thing different in sinners and saints – is that “one is forgiven and the other one ain’t.” I should mention as well, that not all men who claim the name of Christ should be seen as representatives of the Church. Claiming Christ, and living Christ-like are worlds apart. Many preachers are no more than hypocritical charlatans…
And as for moving back to Texas…don’t tempt me….

You are so far from right it is ridiculous!
I love that you feel like you are so “in the know” on how this organization operates. “I mow lawns and read the bible – I know how every organization operates in a city that I’m not even from!!!” Your second paragraph explains so much and why I will never visit your page again….
“I understand, if it is indeed true,” – this shows that you feel that you cannot be wrong. But, I guess that is how I feel about Christianity, “I understand, if it is indeed true…”

Couldn’t help it….read your “poem” again.
You’re a racist.

Thank you for your continued patronage Tired. I’m sorry that my writing has evoked these kinds of feelings from you. Feel free to visit the blog again if you ever change your mind.

by the way – if you would like to read a little about a genuine racist, do a quick search on Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood), and her repulsive “Negro Project”. Here is some interesting info as well.
